To make a glass mosaic art, firstly, the craftsman makes a scaled drawing of the design on paper, and then is traced on to an OHP sheet.
The OHP sheet is cut into the multiple pieces according to the design that is traced on it and then is assembled to form the complete drawing of the glass mosaic art.
The OHP parts are then traced onto the final glass mosaic mirror pieces according to their colors and specifications. Then, the artist uses a diamond cutting tool to precisely cut colorful glass mosaic pieces to the required shape and color. The sharp edges of the glass mosaic shapes are sanded so that they do not cut anybody’s skin.
The glass mosaic shapes are then pasted on to the paper base at their appropriate positions. The remaining open spaces and grooves between pieces of thikri mirror work are filled with a paste made from marble powder and glue with a mixture of water. The complete area is leveled. And the final glass mosaic finish is done.
Then the extra paste is sanded to give a consistent level. The artist’s patience and skills are required in each detail of the work, requiring many days to complete a single piece of thikri art.
